For this essay, you will need to choose one of the four texts below and write both a summary and a paragraph discussing the main theme(s) of your chosen text. Firstly, you will need to write an introduction in which you give a few general statements about the main ideas of the text or perhaps a history of the particular topic discussed by the author. This introduction should build to your thesis, which should hint at both the main plot points of the piece and also the main theme(s). Secondly, you will need to write two to three body paragraphs, each of which begins with a strong, specific topic sentence. It makes sense to have one body paragraph in which you summarize the piece, followed by a second body paragraph discussing the theme or main idea. Thirdly, you will need to write a conclusion that both restate what you have said throughout the paper, and also offers suggestions for alleviating problems raised by the issues in these stories.
