A reflection paper is a process of putting thoughts for a meaning learning experience. Reflection papers demonstrate not only that you are reading the material, and preparing for class, but also that you are pondering the issues. Reflection papers allow you to articulate ideas and arguments while you are reading and thus be better prepared to participate in discussion during the next class. In addition, reflection papers develop complex insights and theories, and allow you to speculate about the future. Most significantly, reflection papers allow you to engage in the process of experiencing the harmony or dissonance between the perspectives described in the readings, your classmates, and your own. Reflection paper privileges experience and the forceful articulation of that experience.
The due dates for the reflection papers are listed in the tentative course schedule. The professor will not accept late papers. Students not prepared with their papers will automatically lose their points for the respective reflection paper. There will be a total of four reflections papers each worth a total of 100 possible points. These papers will count as 10% of your final grade.
