Although MTR is now the sole railway service provider in Hong KONF ,it continues to expand and diversify .For example ,the company has expanded into China ,announcing that it would proceed with further planning and design of the Hong Kong section of the GuangZhou-shenzheng-Hong kong Express rail link .The express rail link will provide frequent services from a new terminal in Hong Kong to Guangzhou in China .The link will also connect with the national express rail network ,which will provide long-haul services to other major cities in China . Internationally, MTR also operates the London Overground commuter rail service in partnership with Germany’s Deutsche Bahn and ,in 2009,it won the contract to operate the Stockholm Metro rail network in Sweden .MTR is also involved in a wide range of other ‘non-railway’ business activities .including the development of residential and commercial projects, as well as property leasing .The company also derives revenue from advertising ,telecommunication services and international consultancy services .Being such a large business with a diverse range of interests ,planning at all levels of its organisation is fundamental to the success of both MTR’s day –to – day operations, and its long term future .
