Writing and Formatting All written work should reflect conventions in the 7th Edition of the American Psychological Association’s Publication Manual. All written assignments should be double-spaced, use 12-point font (Times New Roman or Calibri only), and display 1-inch margins on all sides. Per APA, authors should use scholarly tone and minimize the use of first person. Any thought that is not common knowledge or your own thoughts (again, minimized) must be cited. If you have any questions about how to cite or paraphrase authors’ work properly, review your APA manual or please ask your instructor.
Topic Choose a social problem that is encountered by social workers in practice. It is acceptable to select one that you have previously encountered in your field placement. (Please remember to make sure there is no identifying information in any of your assignments that could possibly violate a client’s confidentiality.) You may also choose to focus on a topic of interest to you, even if you do not have direct experience with the topic. The social problem is the broader macro-level problem of which your topic is a more specific subset.
