Hello class,

Internet of things technology is on the rise including smartphones, smart TVs, tablets, smart appliances, and smart homes. Moreover, both homes and businesses in need of high-speed internet with strong WIFI connectivity. But, when it comes to the IEEE 802.11 wireless standards, we have many options to choose from, however, I choose IEEE 802.11ac known as WIFI 5 at first then I recently upgraded to WIFI 6 (802.11ax) because of the wider range coverage and increased download and upload speeds. According to course learning resources, “the technical development of 802.11ac began in 2011 and the standard was finalized at the end of 2013 and formally approved on January 7, 2014. Moreover, 802.11ac operates in the 5  signal range, and offers backward compatibility to 802.11a/b/g/n, and bandwidth rated up to 1300 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, plus up to 450 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Unlike previous generations of Wi-Fi that used only 2.4 GHz channels. However, 802.11ax or Wi-Fi 6 maxes out at 10 Gbps and uses less power, is more reliable in congested environments, and supports better security.” (Mitchell). My daughter and I love watching movies and playing online video games; however, it takes long time to download a video game to the point where I get frustrated and cancel the download altogether. I contacted my internet provider technical support and they recommended upgrading to WIFI 6 for five dollars per month fee. Now, I’m glad I upgraded to WIFI 6, because now it takes a fraction of the time to download any video game as well as movies. In addition, my upload speed has increased dramatically as well. Please watch the attached video link that shows the speed difference between 802.11ac WIFI 5 and WIFI 6 (802.11ax). Here are the speed test results, WIFI 5: Download speed at 262.80 Mbps, and upload speed at 157.82 Mbps. WIFI 6, on the other hand, is 378.55 Mbps for download speed, and 265.57 Mbps for upload speed- huge differences in speed alone.

Good day, Instructor and Classmates!

We are discussing the potential install or upgrading corporate that houses 700 end users or nodes that are employees of the company. In this discussion, we need to cover what the Wi-Fi is going to be utilized for. Depending on the usage depends on what will be needed to support the connections speed and bandwidth.

Although the most frequent terms used in the language and one of the most popular is going to be 802.11as. and 802.11n. However, there are others, Wi-Fi that is, that could be more suitable.  802.11ac is understood to provide up to 1.3 Gbps compared to 802.11n.

Having a flexible band of both 2.4 and 5 GHz, which also works backwards, may be more appropriate for corporate offices having one or the other bands cover a guest Wi-Fi for employee mobile devices while on their break and the other strictly for work usage. The 2-4 Ghz may be narrower in bandwidth but stronger at a longer range while the 5Ghz may be faster.

There are other considerations in discussing what is available now as mentioned above. Once we find out what is needed and how we need to set up, doing some research will pay of understanding that new technology with incredible Wi-Fi speeds is just around the corner. From the older technology we had back in the early and mid 90’s, there is new or newer technology that supports 802.11ax. 802.11ax is designed for high density public environments.

Which I could also include an employee cafeteria for 700 employees. I would be recommending 802.11ax for areas within the corporate offices but not all. I would also recommend dedicated band strictly for work purposes refraining any employees to use it. This would assist in the cyber security personal from having to defend against bugs and viruses’ employees may bring into or onto the “working” network.
