Joshi, R., Arora, M., & Mukherjee, R. (2020). Do women justify the violence they face? Intimate partner violence among married women. Medical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil University, 13(2), 113–119.This study was conducted in India and it discusses how violence against women not only affects women but men and the communities they inhabit. Women with a higher education were less likely to justify the sexual violence they experienced at the hands of a man comparably to women who were married for a longer time, had controlling husbands, and were experiencing sexual violence. However, while women who were more educated often experienced sexual violence far more. The article discusses little of what more can be done to combat these behavioral issues but does suggest conversations between partners in the hopes to rectify these issues.

Focusing our attention on Chapter three, where the book challenges “Women are just as violent as men” it expands on how women who are proclaimed as violent are described as such by media figureheads without real substantive peer reviewed data. The women who do fight back often against men who are in fact instigating the violence. It also recounts how men are more likely to underreport their violence, measuring tools often ignore male violence use to control women or violence that may not stem from any identifiable cause, and ignores forced isolation as a form of abuse by males.
