Virtual Clinical Experiences Content

Students are responsible for completing:

a. Answer clinical reasoning questions throughout the virtual experience

b. Complete post-quiz

c. Complete the windshield survey data collection document (this must be hand-written and sufficiently detailed. I should be able to look at the information that you have included and get a full picture of the community. A minimum of 2 sentences per box labeled location and other information and in many of these it is going to be more information provided).

d. Identify and discuss 3 neighborhood strengths and 3 neighborhood risks based on the windshield survey data you have collected making sure to use your knowledge from textbook readings, interactive modules and supplemental Module readings to demonstrate what constitutes community strengths and risks. (this again requires you to provide rationales for choosing the specific strengths and risks and needs to be supported with the data you collected using the Windshield Survey.

e. Utilizing the Public Health Intervention Wheel you learned about in Chapter 1 (see Figure 1.4 & Table 1.1) include 3 specific public health-related interventions that would implement as a community health nurse to address those risks be appropriate for downtown Promise Heights based on those strengths and risks you identified using the Windshield Survey (Make sure to clarify the category of intervention based on the Public Health Intervention Wheel and then specifically state what intervention you would utilize providing rationale again these are specific to the downtown Promise Heights Community and are not generic interventions that can be applied to any community).

The goal of a Community Health Assessment is to identify the community health problems that are the priorities for intervention, as well as community resources available to address each health problem or need. Assessment of a community includes identification of community assets and strengths, as well as specific health problems or health needs. Assessment of community readiness and community capacity to address the identified health problems is also an important part of the process. The process of community assessment is discussed in Chapter 11 (the book you can see it on the website I will provide)

INTRODUCTION TO VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE:

Virtual Experience

 

The virtual clinical experience takes place in downtown Promise Heights. Each student will virtually walk through the streets of Promise Heights making assessments associated with a traditional windshield survey such as observing characteristics of the community including the physical environment such as homes, buildings and businesses, streets and transportation, and the natural environment such as walkability, green space, or parks for recreation. Many residents and business owners in Downtown Promise Heights will be ready to provide additional data about the health and well-being of the community. 

 

Once the students launch the virtual clinical experience, and listens to/reads a short introduction, they will be provided information about how to navigate through the environment and how to gather narrative and audio data embedded within the environment. Students will be prompted to navigate through Downtown Promise Heights to gather data associated with various locations and buildings as well as from residents and business owners who will be ready to share thoughts about their community. In addition to the information collected, students are expected to observe to the overall look and feel of the community. This virtual clinical experience is developed to be completed individually.

  • Complete the notes section with the assignment virtually
  • Complete the handwritten Windshield Survey (detailed)you can typed and I will handwriting
  • Identify 3 neighborhood strengths and 3 neighborhood risks (with rationales and supporting data from the Windshield survey)
  • Identify 3 specific public health interventions (detailed) using the Public Health Intervention Wheel.
  • Complete the Post-Activity Quiz (in Coursepoint)
