Weekly Overview:
This weekâ€s module examines how we can improve the patient experience, improve the health of the population, and reduce costs. We will also examine the concept of patient centered care in this new age of medical practice. The role of Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies, and patient and healthcare worker safety will be a major focus. Quality measurements such as patient satisfaction surveys and error control mechanisms will be examined.
Objectives:
After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:
Explain relevant theories of error as they relate to patient care.
Apply error management strategies from other professions to healthcare.
Explain how error management can produce cost savings for the healthcare organization.
Discuss concerns from regulatory agencies.
Examine the global impact of national initiatives on quality care.
Read:
Chapter 7 (28 pages) of Nickitas, Middaugh, & Aries, (2016).
Katz, M. (2014). As needed for research.
Start by reading and following these instructions:
