In order to answer the following questions, you need to have read and studied the assigned texts.  You will be asked to link the different findings, so you need to think your answers through before you begin. Remember, I am not asking your opinion, but rather asking you to discuss what these articles conclude. When I read academic articles I highlight findings, research questions, theories used, etc.  Then I write on the side what is important and summarize key information. Cite all literature. Copy and paste each question and answer appropriately under each question.  Late work will be penalized 10% the first week and 20% after the first week late.

Be sure to include the questions in your write up.

  1. What is distinctive about academic business research? (200 words) (10 points)
  2. What contextual factors affect the practice of business research and researcher’s choice of methods?(200 words) (10 points)
  3. Your Applied Project (as well as all research you do in your doctoral program) will follow the process of business research. It is important to understand this process and how to implement this process. Analyze each step of the process. (For example, why is a literature review important and how should it be structured?, Why is theory development important?, How should a research question be written?, How do we sample and how does this affect our data collection, data analysis, and our conclusions?) (350 words) (20 points)
  4. Select one topic from the list of choices below (topic already selected below). Find 4 empirical articles on your chosen topic from peer reviewed journals. A list of top Management Journals are found in your syllabus. Please complete a summary for each article. Directions for completion of the summaries are found below. You will use these articles to write a literature review in week 3.  Therefore, do not simply choose the first four articles you find, but rather find four articles that can be synthesized into a thoughtful paper.  Therefore, it might take you awhile to find four appropriate articles.   All work should follow APA writing style and be written with high standards. (60 points)

  1. Discuss the relationship between Personality (i.e., the Five Factor Model of Personality) and job performance.

 

 

 

 

Article Summary Expectations

Paragraph 1: Summarize the author’s introduction (their review of the literature).

  • What was the author’s purpose for doing their study? (What problem were thy interested in researching?)
  • What did other studies find about their topic.
  • Remember the literature review is a collection of other researcher’s ideas and findings. Therefore, when citing information that comes from a literature review, you do not cite the author of that paper, but rather the researchers who discovered that information.  However, it is always best to go to the original article and not just take the information from a literature review.
  • State the hypotheses of the article.
    • Hypothesis 1: State hypothesis 1 here.
    • Hypothesis 2: State hypothesis 2 here.

Paragraph 2: Summarize the Methodology

  • What methods were used in the research? (Survey, Interviews, etc.)
  • Is the study quantitative, qualitative, or conceptual?
  • Describe the population and sample.
  • Identify the dependent and independent variables and explain how each were operationalized. (Operationalized means how are the variables measured. In order to answer this question you need to discuss the survey).
  • How was data obtained?
  • What statistical technique was run?

Paragraph 3: Conclusions/Discussion

  • Discuss the findings of this research. (The findings are attributed to the author of that paper.  You cite that author when discussing findings.)
  • Discuss the conclusions that were made.
  • What are ideas for future research?
  • What are the limitations to this study?
