HRIS Needs Assessment

Introduction

The paper will review the requirements for a human resource information system (HRIS) that will be utilized to run employee information, benefits, and compensation for ABC Corporation. Moreover, the paper will review HRIS drawbacks and challenges and also some problems facing the organization.

Business Assessment

ABC Corporation is a mid-sized company occupying three locations in the United States. The company comprises of 200 employees. The business structure includes Excel and Word software for keeping workers’ files, compensation, and payroll. The company has one HR employee who manages workers’ records and accounts payable clerk.

Identified Problems

ABC Corporation experience several HR challenges. Firstly, HR has challenges of embracing change with ease and grace as the organization will slow grow 100% over the next three years. HR will face the problem of ensuring innovation within the organization. Performance management, as only one HR employee, is responsible for keeping records. Another challenge is payroll errors since the company utilizes only Word and Excel to keep track of employee payroll – the company lacks a backup plan and more advanced software (mitrefinch, 2016).

HR functions like benefits and payroll, tax compliance and record-keeping, recruitment and training, compliance with laws, and employee-employer relations will be more efficient in the organization. Moreover, performance management, learning and development, and human resource planning will be of great help to the company.

HRIS Needs Analysis

The HR function selected is recruitment and training. Some challenges faced by hiring and training include the necessity of recruiting employees in the shortest period and remuneration or benchmarking salaries during the recruitment process (Helpboard, 2020). Moreover, HR training is faced with a challenge in the learning and development of career programs to motivate, retain, and improve the performance of employees.

HRIS application will be associated with many benefits that will boost the overall performance of the organization. HRIS application will enhance the HR employee productivity as it is designed to improve and speed up HR employees’ efforts in many ways. HRIS application will reduce the errors that might be caused by HR employees and also maintain compliance with significant legal issues. Moreover, HRIS will offer several solutions to the organization – it will help training, recruiting, payroll, and respect.

The HRIS should contain several components such as a database to offer a storage place for storing employee information and labor and time management to allow managers to verify employee requests with ease and enable employees input hours worked on their own. Payroll functionality to enable the organization issue out payroll with ease and manage employees’ salaries (Majumder, 2016) – help the organization improve its efficiency and productivity. Another crucial element is employee interface to allow employees to access a limited part of the system to update their personal information, update other essential details, and also download schedules. Finally, recruitment and retention are another indispensable element of HRIS, which will help the organization become more efficient and productive. The HRIS will help the company is finding new talents, selecting them, motivating them, and finally retain the abilities to enhance the efficiency and output of the organization.

Conclusion

Some HR functions such as payroll management, recruitment and training, record keeping, tax compliance, and performance management will be more efficient in the organization. Recruitment and training function faces some challenges, such as conducting the recruitment with a less period. HRIS application into the organization will have many benefits for the organization. Some essential elements of HRIS include labor and time management, and payroll function, which improve efficiency and productivity in the company. The company should adopt new technology to cope with the real changes in HR.
