World Health Organization (WHO) SWOT Analysis

Strengths

  • WHO has a good reputation and a strong brand in the world. It has been operating since 1984.
  • The organization has a strong economic base. It enjoys financial stability because all the member states adequately fund it.
  • The organization has a large pool of the best staff. It has enough resources to hire well trained and experienced persons to manage their affairs.
  • The organization has an extensive network because it is an international organization with a global reach.

Weaknesses

Despite all its strengths, the WHO has certain weaknesses. These are:

  • First, the organization has been dealing with the politicization of the organization’s activities by different governments across the globe.
  • Besides, there is favoritism in the organization because it treats its members differently depending on their levels of development (Misbah & Mahboob, 2017).
  • Lastly, there is a damaged reputation due to employee misconduct and cases of ethical violations.

Opportunities

WHO has got certain opportunities that it still needs to explore. Such opportunities include:

  • First, the organization can still extend its operations to the countries in which it has not reached.
  • Secondly, the organization can still take advantage of the latest technological innovations and incorporate them into the service-delivery process
  • Lastly, the organization can further improve its services to emerge as the best alternative in the market. To achieve this, it needs to invest in research.

Threats

WHO has been facing certain threats that bar it from achieving its full potential. Such threats are:

  • There is a stiffening competition from the private sector. The private sector offers an excellent quality of services hence appealing to many people.
  • Also, the organization has been facing threats of the inconsistencies in healthcare regulation policies (Cueto, Brown & Fee, 2019). The policies keep on changing from one country to the other.
