During the 2015–2016 election cycle, American voters heard a great deal of talk from candidates—during both the primary contests and the general election—about the declining middle class in the United States.
Think about what you may have read, heard, and learned of this subject inside and outside of the classroom.
Now construct a short essay that addresses this question: Is the American middle class in trouble?
If yes, what should be done to improve its lot? In answering this question, think about the analytical framework we use in the course and be sure to identify structural components that may help or hinder your solution’s likelihood of success (i.e. actually seeing the government enact your solution) and explain how they do so.
If no, how the middle class is doing better today than it was before the late 1970s? In answering this question, think about the analytical framework we use in the course and be sure to identify the government actions that have made the middle class better off today and explain how they do so.
