Theories of violence and victims
Chapters 2, 3, and 7 of the textbook, the article “Sociological theories of intimate partner violence” by Lawson, and the video “Voices of Violence, Part 1†review several theories that have been used to explain domestic violence. After reviewing these theories, select one that you believe best explains domestic violence. Your post should first summarize the theory and explain why you selected it. Then, discuss how this theory could be used to formulate a definition of domestic abuse. How is this reflected in your stateâ€s statutes?

The Forensic Experiential Trauma Interview (FETI)
After reviewing the article, review the scenario below. Using concepts from the FETI article, describe how you would obtain a statement, and the types of questions you would ask of the victim of a domestic assault. Complete your response using approximately 250 words.
Scenario: You are dispatched to a residence in your city. A female called 911 to report she had been physically assaulted by her intoxicated husband. Upon arrival, the victim (female) has redness and swelling on the left side of her face. Her husband (suspect) has redness and swelling on his right hand over his knuckles. Both parties are separated and a brief, initial statement is obtained from the victim and suspect. The victim tells you her husband had been drinking all day. He became angry with the victim over finances. He pushed the victim against a wall and struck her with his right, closed fist on the left side of her face. She fell to the ground and lost consciousness for a short time. After regaining consciousness, she felt pain on the left side of her face. She called 911. The suspect tells your partner that he accidently slapped his wife during an argument. The suspect is 6â€1â€, 220 pounds. He exhibits obvious indications of being the aggressor. The victim is 5â€5â€, 120 pounds, and is emotional. She refuses medical attention and the suspect is arrested for domestic assault.
You are required to obtain a formal (recorded) statement from the victim after the suspect is transported to jail. Consider the FETI article while obtaining the statement. Where in the home would you obtain the statement? What types of questions would you ask? What types of resources would you offer the victim at the conclusion of your statement?
