Health and Physical Education

In this section, you will identify a school for which you can access the student population information such as demographics, socioeconomic status, and religious affiliations (where available) that might influence physical education options, sports programs, school site physical education, or sports facilities/resources. Note: Choose a student population that you work with or would like to work with, this chosen group/class/age for all the portfolio and other assignments throughout the course.

1. Describe the age group/class where this Health and PE unit will take place. This should be presented in outline form that includes: 
• Number of students, approximate age of students, General Education or Special Education setting 
• Actual geographic location, include a breakdown of socioeconomic status in this location
• Breakdown of gender, ethnic, religious identity, language (this should be based on research of the geographic area, and not just chosen at random). 
• Intramural sports, interests, sports, activities, and hobbies of children in this class, reflective of children who live in this community; physical education program 
• Health/physical benefits of living in this community 
• Health/physical challenges of living in this community 
• Areas where a teacher might want to be sensitive to a diverse group of students in terms of lessons in Health and Physical Education (i.e. if this is a highly religious community, a teacher might need to be sensitive in presentation of sexual education content) 
• Cite the school website and any other resources consulted to compose your outline
