Week 4: Scenario – At the Dinner Table

Discussion Topic

At a dinner table, the children are asked to eat all their food. The idea is that there are children starving all over the world (see stats in Holmes text 229-232, esp. 231). When one of the more adroit kids quips in response, “Yeah, mom, but even if I eat all my peas, those starving kids elsewhere will still starve!”

What would you say in response to this child’s rather incisive remark? What kind of connection is the plea by parents to “finish all your food and be thankful” reflective of? Peruse Ch.7.3 and try to construct substantive response.
