Universal Basic Income (UBI) has been proposed by many policymakers (past and present) as a way to fight poverty. This has been tried in some countries; however, many believe that this would just promote laziness and would just lead to a poverty trap; that is, some would just rely on the government and not have the incentive to work hard, which can be an obstruction to escaping poverty. Conduct more research on this topic, and then write an essay which answers the following questions:
- Do you support a Universal Basic Income program in the US? Why or why not?
- If you support it, discuss how you think this should be implemented (how much, rules, etc.).
- If you do not support it, what do you think is a better government program to address poverty?
Make sure to support your arguments with your research.
