This assignment will require you to analyze the rhetoric used in a professionally created image that is accessible online. For example, you could analyze:
A movie cover/poster
An advertisement
A public service announcement image
A magazine cover
Etc.
You may choose to analyze an image made recently or an image from decades ago – just remember to keep the rhetorical situation in mind as you analyze. For example, it might be interesting to find and analyze one of the following images:
an American war poster from WWI
an advertisement for vodka from the 1950s
a movie poster for the first Star Wars (from its original release)
an advertisement for how to gain weight published in a 1930s newspaper (they seriously do exist)
a poster advertising the Civil Rights movement
Whatever image you choose, remember your job will be easier if the image has an identifiable purpose (to persuade people to watch a movie, buy a product, enlist in the military) and an identifiable creator (Disney Corporation, producers, the Black Panther Party) and an identifiable audience (the audience is never "everyone" or "the general public".

In 4+ pages, meaning at least onto the fifth page, you will make an argument concerning the effectiveness of the image’s rhetoric within the image’s original rhetorical situation. In order to do so, you will need to identify:
the rhetorical purpose of the image,
the image’s context (background information, intended audience, etc.),
the image’s claim and reason(s), and
the specific rhetorical tools that result in
specific rhetorical appeals being used to affect the audience.
