African American Anthropology

For this assignment, you will be writing a book review of an ethnography about Black America. The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn what else, besides what we read in class, constitutes the Anthropology of Black America. What does the rest of the anthropological literature on Black America look like? 

The work you review must be ethnographic. There is much written about Black Americans. But not all of it is based on   ethnographic research. You must review an ethnographic scholarly text written either by a sociologist (because sociologists also write ethnographies) or, of course, an anthropologist. If you have any doubts as to whether your book is ethnographic, you should feel free to show it to me in class or email me the citation.
