States have a responsibility to follow federal laws and governance related to education. At the same time, because the federal government only funds about 8% of state education, state departments of education make decisions about how they will participate in federal educational reform/initiatives.
In this assignment you will examine federal laws and educational reform/initiatives to better understand how specific states are addressing federal legislation. The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) serves as an umbrella of federal legislation with more recent initiatives under it such as No Child Left Behind, Every Student Succeeds Act and most recently the programs under the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. Educational reform/initiatives often change with administrations, but the topics they address often remain the same and include issues like early childhood programs, teacher education and qualifications, student performance, diverse learners, and school and community engagement.
For this assignment you will examine Program information found on the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education website. You will want to explore the offices found under the Programs tab and then select two programs and analyze how one state is addressing them.

For your submission, create a digital presentation in a format of your choice.
Your presentation should contain the following minimum number of slides:
· 1 Title slide – title, your name, course, and date
· 1 Introduction slide – key points you will make in the presentation
· 2 Slides – one per each educational program. You will provide an overview of each program.
· 2 slides – one per each educational program describing how it has been addressed at the state level
· 1 Slide – reflection on your personal philosophy of education
· 1 slide – References in APA format

Assess the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education page. Link is provided
(https://oese.ed.gov) Select two Programs and examine specific information related to the Program.
State information can be found under each Program or by going directly to the specific States Department of Education page.
Step 3. Analyze
Analyze the improvement efforts of your selected state based on two federal Programs.
Consider how each Program and the state improvement efforts align to your personal philosophy of education.
