Choose a present or past client or system (individual, couple, family, or group)
● Describe presenting problem along with a brief summary of the relevant information (tied to the presenting problem).
● Present a formulation or theory of the presenting problem. Why is your client in the place he or she is in? Indicate the protective and risk factors with this case.
● Identify two interventions extrapolate from the practice approaches and theories that we are addressing in this course (practice methods…psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, etc.) you will choose to help your client with his or her presenting problem. Describe each method thoroughly. What is it? From what theory did this approach derive? What theory did it come from? What are the guiding principles or critical element of the intervention? Citations are required in this section.
● Present the reason or rationale for choosing these interventions. Why would these two interventions be effective for your client and the presenting problem? Provide ample data sources to support your ideas.
● How do these interventions differ? What are the potential barriers to making progress with this client using each intervention?
● Describe how you will assess the efficacy of your interventions? What would success look like with this client? Support your ideas with relevant data sources.
● Develop a treatment plan consistent with your intervention with achievable objective and goals. Describe specific methods for evaluating progress toward problem resolution. How will you know that you and your client have made progress? Please utilize literature to support your choice.
● Discuss the treatment relationship and the ways it evolved and address your and your
client’s social identities. How did these identities interact and inform the work? What might you do differently and why would these changes be better? What ethical and social justice issues were implicated in this work, in the client’s issues, and in the particular agency in which it is occurring?
Evaluate your effectiveness showing the evidence found in the literature that supports your evaluation method. Reflect on your time with this client, what would you have done differently with more hindsight and insight?
