- Filter and purify toxic air emissions (sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides) from a factory (chapters 2 and 4)
- Filter and purify toxic wastewater emissions (phosphorus and nitrogen compounds) from a factory (chapters 4 and 8)
- Integrated Pest Management – Discover ways to decrease pesticides for a major agricultural company (chapter 13)
- Find a way to integrate a variety of flavors into the newest gum produced by a candy company (chapters 10 and 11)
- Investigate increasing a food item’s nutritional value (chapters 10 and 13)
- Create a new beer/wine using natural flavors synthesized (chapters 10 and 11)

For this final case study, you must:
- Identify the problem
- Explain the chemistry behind the problem (lean on information from the chapters and your own research)
- Propose a hypothesis on how to fix the problem (see video: How to Write a Hypothesis (Links to an external site.))
- Describe what research says about the solution to the problem
- Describe the pros and cons of your solution to the problem
- Predict the future of this problem based on contemporary research

- Current edition of APA must be used
- If writing a paper:
- Including APA paper formatting with a cover sheet, in-text citations, and references (no abstract is needed)
- If creating a presentation in Kaltura:
- In-text citations and references in APA format

- If writing a paper:
- At least 3 reputable sources, of which 1 must come from the library’s databases
