This assignment requires the skills of application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. This assignment must be written in the first person (I). First, identify strategies that build a learning environment conducive to preventing emotional and behavioral problems. Include a description of the constructive consequences and how the teacher will facilitate the childrens understanding of them. Describe the role of the teacher in the implementation and monitoring of the management plan. Describe the ethical behavior that the teacher must model and apply in working with children and their families.
Second, make a chart of classroom limits. Be certain that each is definable, reasonable, and enforceable. Include the possible consequences for children who test the classroom limits. Add a section for adaptations to these limits and consequences to accommodate children with disabilities. Include at least one adaptation each for children with health impairments, hearing loss, difficulties in learning, physical disabilities, and visual impairments.
Third, create a scene using one of the following three behavioral problems that may arise in a typical early childhood classroom: two children fighting over the same toy, a child throwing a temper tantrum to be first at some activity, and a child throwing a toy across a crowded room because he is frustrated with it. Describe (elaborate) the selected scene, write a script that reveals what you, as the teacher would say and do, and how you might expect the child to react. Identify any ethical issues that may be related to the scenario.
