You will choose one area from the class or issue (based on our class outline and the book) and compare it to your life
experience (whether it may be a separation, communication issues, step-family, parenting, or challenges with your parents,
marriage, ethnic issues/strengths within your family, etc.) I will meet with all of you to discuss your topic. You will compare your
life situation to the concepts in the text/class and also a couple/few more sources from journals or acceptable internet sources.
Examples of areas within the discipline of Sociology of the Family include: Working mothers, single parents, ethnic traditions of
a family, adoption, sexual harassment, parenting, divorce, step families, communication in families. There must me evidence
that you have understood the principles of Sociology relating to your experience. The paper will encompass both the written
communication goals of the college and the standards of the Sociology Department. Finally the student must have a
bibliography of all sources used and write in coherent and organized English language.
