Every US citizen has a right to vote; but what if I live here but cannot vote (due to restrictions, residency status, or misinformation).  A society is more democratic when more of its people can vote and voice their thoughts on policy and liberties.

In this CONSTITUTION CHECK, let’s check how to vote in a random state of your choosing (it cannot be Florida).  Visit VOTE411.org and click on the state you have chosen.  Reflect on the following:

1. What are the registration deadlines for your state?

2. Does the state offer early voting, voting by mail, or both?

3. If I may not vote, what other activities involve voicing thoughts on policy or civil liberties?

4. What does the First Amendment to the US Constitution say about civic engagement?

Now visit the Orange County Office of Elections here in Florida [https://www.ocfelections.com/how-to-vote (Links to an external site.)]  Spend 1-2 paragraphs comparing the rules in Florida and the rules you found in YOUR STATE.  Then reflect on how/why state voting laws and regulations are different across the 50 states.  Should there be one standard rule, or does it make sense to have 50 different sets of rules/regulations?
