Start with choosing an audience. This could be a Factsheet you give to your family and friends. Maybe its for your workplace or the students in your wing or on your floor. Maybe youre a student teacher and youd like to create something for your middle school class. The audience is up to you but it will determine the tone and language you use for your Factsheet so please keep that in mind.
The purpose is to educate the population that youve chosen on how they can protect themselves from these crimes. This is basically a Cyber Literacy Campaign.
What to include:
Title Have a title somewhere at the top of the page. For example Cyber Awareness Factsheet
Add a Catchy Tag Line For example: Dont be a Victim! Big Brother is Watching You You get the idea.
Content to Include (3 highlighted items):
Cyber Hygiene From a technology standpoint, how should your audience manage their device settings and capabilities. Have a section for each of the following:
Mobile devices
PC/Mac
Home electronics/smart devices – e.g. Smart TV, Baby monitors, Webcams
Behavior Your audience probably has some behaviors (or are lacking behaviors) that are making them extremely vulnerable. What should they stop doing? What should they start doing?
Here are some examples:

- Make sure private conversations are actually private. Just because you can talk on the phone while shopping for shoes doesnt mean you should.
- How often do you back up your computer? What happens if youre a victim of Ransomware?
Know Your Rights What if you become a victim of cyber or cyber-enabled crime? What are the steps you should take and what laws can you refer to understand your rights as a consumer/citizen?
An example: What happens if your bank account has been taken over? What are the immediate steps that you need to take? How do you find out what laws protect you?
