Merriam-Webster defines criminology as the scientific study of crime as a social phenomenon, of criminals, and of penal treatment. As cybercrimes are becoming prevalent in our lives, there is a need to study cybercriminals from a social and behavioral dimension, as those sciences have some well-established theories and tools to study the causes and consequences of crimes, in general, which could be applied to cyberspace. Having a look at criminological science would reveal that most of the theories are developed to deal with the street crimes. Cybercrimes introduce challenges that have not been seen in legacy crime scenes. This needs to be investigated to see how those could be used in cybercrimes.
