Discussion: Short-term Financial Management

For this discussion, please complete the following tasks:

1. Use the publicly traded company you were assigned for the first discussion.
2. Identify the company in the title or top line of your post.
3. Download the discussion table  Download discussion table.
4. Navigate to the Ready Ratios website (Links to an external site.) and enter your company name in the Search box.
5. Scroll down to the area that has the Activity ratios, and note the following ratios for both your company and for the Industry. 
   • Receivables Turnover (in days)
   • Inventory Turnover (in days)
6. Scroll back to the top of this page and select the Statements link.  This will take you to a page that lists the last several years’ worth of financial data. 
7. Scroll down the Balance Sheet and retrieve the last two years’ worth of data for Accounts Payable.  Average these two numbers together and note your result on the discussion table.
8. Continue scrolling down this same page and retrieve the Cost of Goods Sold information from the Income Statement.  Find the most recent two years of data. Average these two numbers together and note your result on the discussion table.
9. Click the button below and download the data for your Industry.

10. Open your Industry report and scroll down to the section called Ratios.  Find the Efficiency ratios for Days in Sales, Days in Inventory, and Days in Payment, and enter your results on the discussion table.
11. Using the data you have collected compute the Cash Cycle for your company and its industry.

In your original post, answer the following:

• First, copy and paste your tables.
• Write a brief summary of the main business operations.
• What do you notice about the company’s ratios and its cash cycle?
• How does this information compare to the industry?
• Can this company manage both the accounts payable period and the cash cycle? Why, or why not?
