DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), a nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms has become a major tool for the criminal justice system.  We watch and read about convicted individuals found innocent as a result of recent DNA analysis and about “cold cases” being solved decade’s later. Consequently, the courts are more reliant on DNA analysis.  However, in 2009, Israeli scientists were able to alter the DNA of one person into that of another person. This may cause a significant setback in the use of DNA as a primary forensic tool.  Research the information available about DNA in the criminal justice system and describe the pros and cons for its use as a primary criminalistics tool.
