The first step to planning an effective lesson is determining what you will teach.  The Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) outline the concepts and skills for each grade level and subject to be taught by teachers and mastered by students.  You job for this assignment is to deconstruct one GSE using a 5-step protocol adapted from the GaDOE 5-Step Protocol for GSE Deconstruction.  Here’s how to complete this assignment:

  1. Select one standard from the list below.    Be sure to select a standard that interests you and that you understand.  You may be using this standard again in this course.  If you don’t understand the standard, then research to figure it out.  🙂
  2. Copy and paste the standard from www.georgiastandards.org (Links to an external site.) into the Deconstructing the Georgia Standards of Excellence template below.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the 5 steps for your selected standard.  Be sure to read the instructions for each step.  Use the sample provided to help guide you.  Also use the “Teacher Guidance” sections at www.georgiastandards.org  (Links to an external site.)to help you clarify your understanding of the standard.  Feel free to use any other online resources of your choosing, but be certain to reference any sites you use.
