Create an infographic for a non-specialist audience
Infographics are an increasingly common type of visual communication that aim to attract attention and improve comprehension of complex information. Infographics may use data, copy, or both to help readers make sense of numbers, concepts, or arguments. Becoming more aware of how and why such visuals work will help you become more critical evaluators of the information you include in reports and business/technical documents.
Your Mission
In this project, you will work individually or with a partner to build important data visualization skills as you:
- Identify your target audience, data sets you will work with, and describe the “story” you will tell with the data.
- Create a data visualization, information design, or editorial infographic that uses two or more data sets (at 3+ for teams), and includes at least one original chart, table, or graph, and one original graphic.
- Write a memo that explains your visual design choices.
- Share your work for feedback during peer review.
- Revise your work and include in your portfolio.
Deliverables
Submit complete drafts for instructor feedback at the end of this module, and include revised drafts in your semester portfolio.
- Infographic: Created for a specific, non-technical audience and purpose, with at least 2 data sets (3 if working with a partner), written description of content with bibliography
- Design memo: Explain your design choices and development process to the instructor in a 1.5-2 pg memo
