Ethics Essay

There is a Paper Due at the end of the course, outlined below. 

Student responsibilities:

Please have a Title Page (place your name, the name of the course, your instructor’s name and date)

PART A: Entitled "My Ethics Discussions".

Simply Copy and Paste in your Three Discussions.  Make sure the font (size 12) is the same throughout and that it is neat.

PART B: Entitled "My Additional Reflections".

Write an additional 3-5 pages on any of the topics below (do not repeat topics from your three discussions)  Minimum of three sources (sources can include our text and audio lectures).Must use the APA source guide.  The general rule is that if you are sourcing something beyond general knowledge, cite the source. Use quotes sparingly, but always quote when using verbatim information. Some reliable sources on the web (just use any web browser and type these in): Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Ethics Updates.

Main requirements for the paper:

SPECIFICALLY, EACH STUDENT SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

What are the specific issues within your topic which most interested you, and why are you interested?  Explain.What positions do you take on each of these ethical issues?  Explain.What is/are your rationale/reasons for taking these positions, and which ethics theory discussed in this course would you use to support your views and why?  Explain.

TOPICS

NOTE: If you are a major in any of the following: Health Science, PTA, or Nursing, you are required to do your essay on a topic or topics related to your chosen majors.

Please choose among the following:

Ethics of Race: Possible topics–Is America still a Racist country? Has it gotten better or worse? What are the causes of Racism and will it ever end? Is the “confederate flag” a racist symbol?  Should anyone use the “N” word? 

Ethics of Culture: For example–Should people from other cultures be made to enculturate or become more American—e.g., should there be an English-only policy?  What about ethical issues tied to immigration policies?

Legal Ethics: For example–Is our system of justice fair? Or is there a two class (wealthy and poor) system or double standard? Should certain drugs (e.g., marijuana) be legalized?

Sexual Ethics: For example–Gay Marriage, Pornography, prostitution.  Sex education in the schools, etc.

Ethics of Privacy: For example–Have we lost the right to privacy in America? Do you have the right to privacy in the workplace? Can your boss look at your activity on the computer or phone at work? Should the government be spying on us?

Religious Ethics: For example–Should prayer be allowed in public schools? Should religion be taught in public schools? Should public institutions allow the celebrations of religion (e.g., Christmas scenes)?  Should religion play a role in politics?

Sports Ethics: For example–Should athletes be allowed to use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs?  Should they be better role models?  Should they be paid so much more than, say, teachers and policeman?  Should we pay college athletes who bring in fans?  Gender equity issues: should women be allowed to compete alongside men in sports?
