Assignment Directions
Each year, SIOP polls their members and compiles a list of the top 10 predictions for future workplace trends. As an example, here is the list from 2020. You may use this list or the most current list on SIOPs website:
Artificial intelligence and machine learning
Diversity, inclusion, and equity
Gig Economy-contract work
Working with big data
The changing nature of work
Automation of jobs and tasks
Algorithmic selection- validity, bias, and application reactions
Workforce health and well-being
Meaning and purposeful work
Virtual working spaces
Data Visualization and communication (SIOP.org, n.d.)
Note: There was a tie for ninth place so the list includes 11 predictions.
For your selected topic, please write a 2-3 page essay that includes the following three sections:
The Problem. Provide a brief summary of the problem. Make sure to properly cite the sources used in researching the problem.
Proposed Research Plan. Identify a research method from Chapter 2 of the Conte and Landy text that is appropriate for studying the problem. Then answer the following questions in your proposed research plan:
Will the research be conducted in a laboratory under controlled conditions or in the field?
Identify and describe the participants.
If there are different conditions in the research (e.g., some participants exposed to a condition and other participants not exposed to the condition), how will participants be assigned to the various conditions?
What will the variables of interest be?
How will measurements on these variables be collected (i.e., outcomes)?
Conclusion. Finally, write a conclusion summarizing your research. How can your proposed research be used as the basis for an intervention at an organization with which you are familiar? For example, if you were to write a research plan to address the work-life balance of gig economy workers, you will then need to describe an intervention that an organization could use to develop a work-life balance policy specifically for its independent contractors (i.e., gig employees).

Assignment Details
Your Assignment should be 2-3 page expository essay (not including the Title and Reference pages) and should include the following elements:
Title Page
Provide your name, title of assignment, course and unit number, and date
Introduction
A thesis statement providing an overview of your chosen problem and a brief introduction of the research methodology you will describe.
Body
Clearly explain your chosen problem from the list provided.
Clearly explain the research methodologies you would employ to study the problem.
Include all five of the following in the body of your paper:
Will the research be conducted in a laboratory under controlled conditions or in the field?
Identify and describe the participants.
If there are different conditions in the research (e.g., some participants exposed to a condition and other participants not exposed to the condition), how will participants be assigned to the various conditions?
What will the variables of interest be?
How will measurements on these variables be collected (i.e., outcomes)?
Please answer the questions in order, and use headings for each section, providing evidentiary support for your comments.
Conclusion
Summarize the paper and include a statement on how this research will further the field of Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Reference Page
Sources in the appropriate APA citation format.
Use at least three credible sources (including your textbook); at least two references must be focused on the chosen problem.
Research Tip: Look at the methods section of research published in the top Industrial and Organizational Journals for ideas.
