Use the play, and include aspects of literary criticism to discuss whether literature serves as a form of resistance and social commentary. You will do this by comparing or contrasting one or more of the contemporary poems by Enzo Silon Surin with A Raisin in the Sun to develop a discussion on what you’ve observed about Black experience in these pieces, and how giving voice to Black experience is or is not activism.
To receive an “A,” Reflections will 1. demonstrate a thorough understanding of the play, 2. apply literary criticism, 3. compare and contrast one or more of Prof. Silon’s poems, 4. illustrate an application of knowledge acquired during the course; and 5. write a thoughtfully organized reflection that minimizes distracting errors in capitalization, punctuation, formatting, indentation, and spelling.
