Option 2 – Write a research paper
Keys texts studied during the second half of the semester included Teju Coles novel Every Day Is for the Thief and Djibril Diop Mambtys film Touki Bouki. There has also been the option to read Chang-rae Lees novel On Such a Full Sea at your own pace throughout the semester. Choose one of these primary texts, and write a 1,500 research paper
(approximately 4.5- to 5-double-spaced pages) about it. A specific topic is up to you, but suggestions include:

How Touki Bouki uses the medium of film (narrative, sound, image, editing) to write
about Africa (you might want to revisit and dialogue with Binyavanga Wainainas
essay How to Write About Africa)
How On Such a Full Sea resonates with aspects of life in a city during a pandemic
To fulfill the research component, please read and cite from 2-3 secondary sources to support your analysis.
