Guidelines for Comprehensive Paper
Choose a medical-surgical patient (not a pediatrics or obstetric patient) with a complex chronic disease
or condition. It can be a person you know or have as a patient.
Ex. COPD, Cancer of Breast, Chronic pain, Multiple Sclerosis
Your paper should include a description (in your own words) of the pathophysiology of the
disease/condition with, clinical manifestations, diagnostic tests, treatment, nursing diagnoses with
interventions, as well as discharge planning to meet patient and familys needs. Identify all local
agencies that can be utilized by a patient with this disease/condition for support from diagnosis to cure
or death. Indicate in each of these sections how the patient(s) you cared for compared to the
textbook picture. You should include complete descriptions of the community agencies with details
that could be used by the patients/families, contact #, wesites, and physical addresses
The paper must be typed, using references. Length-6-10 pages.
Worth 150 points. It is suggested that you divide the paper into sections according to the evaluation
criteria listed below.
This will be presented to your classmates during post clinical at a time you choose.
