Topic: How drug use affects adolescent kids in school and daily life
in week 2 you selected your topic for your research study. Now you will be putting that information to the test! You will be creating an annotated bibliography with research-based articles based upon the topic you selected for your research study. Your annotated bibliography should contain at least 4 primary resources; for each source, you will provide a paragraph-long annotation.
The following are questions meant to guide you in writing your paragraph summary of the article.
- Overview of the study. What is the study about? What are the hypotheses and research questions? You want to have the basic overview available to introduce the article which is where a major portion of the summary comes from.
- Methodology. Are there any specific participants? Did the authors collect information via a survey or did they complete an experiment? Is the study qualitative or quantitative? You want to answer questions like this to help you tackle the methodology!
- What are the results/findings? You can keep this simple, but you want to discuss the significance of the results/findings in your summary. So if one group had a significant difference than another group – indicate that. Also, what is the meaning behind the results? If one group was significantly different, what was it for? What is the reason? Was it because of some extra variable? Mostly, what do these results imply?
- Any limitations. Recognizing limitations (and ways that the study can improve) is very significant in research. Maybe the authors showcase something that is a glaring limitation, and maybe you notice something else. This is your time to question that information and showcase your ability to critically think!
- Take home message. This is your final wrap up about why this study is important. Does it apply to a specific population? Does it (or can it) drive changes in policy? This is the big picture!
You will need to create a title page and a references page! Additionally, your annotated bibliography needs to be in APA format.
