Each year, SIOP polls their members and compiles a list of the top 10 predictions for future workplace trends. Here is an example of the list, published as SIOP members predictions for 2020:

  2. Diversity, inclusion, and equity
  3. Gig Economy-contract work
  4. Working with big data
  5. The changing nature of work
  6. Automation of jobs and tasks
  7. Algorithmic selection- validity, bias, and application reactions
  8. Workforce health and well-being
  9. Meaning and purposeful work
  10. Virtual working spaces
  11. Data Visualization and communication (SIOP.org, n.d.)

Note: There was a tie for ninth place so the list includes 11 predictions.

 For your selected topic, please write a 2-3 page essay that includes the following three sections:

  1. The Problem. Provide a brief summary of the problem. Make sure to properly cite the sources used in researching the problem.
  2. Proposed Research Plan. Identify a research method from Chapter 2 of the Conte and Landy text that is appropriate for studying the problem. Then answer the following questions in your proposed research plan:
    1. Will the research be conducted in a laboratory under controlled conditions or in the field?
    2. Identify and describe the participants.
    3. If there are different conditions in the research (e.g., some participants exposed to a condition and other participants not exposed to the condition), how will participants be assigned to the various conditions?
    4. What will the variables of interest be?
    5. How will measurements on these variables be collected (i.e., outcomes)?
  3. Conclusion. Finally, write a conclusion summarizing your research. How can your proposed research be used as the basis for an intervention at an organization with which you are familiar? For example, if you were to write a research plan to address the work-life balance of gig economy workers, you will then need to describe an intervention that an organization could use to develop a work-life balance policy specifically for its independent contractors (i.e., gig employees).
