In Unit 2, you created an annotated bibliography to help you summarize and evaluate sources on the history of anti-Muslim racism in the United States. For the final assignment, you will complete a paper grounded in a discussion of primary and secondary source material about this intersection of race and religion in the United States.

You are practicing the art of presenting evidence and conducting analysis. Remember that there are three main kinds of evidence: primary (documents, images, interviews or surveys), secondary (the scholarly literature that discusses other studies), and tertiary (popular media). This paper will rely on primary and secondary evidence, likely with a heavy leaning toward secondary. This means that you might be presenting the results from other studies as well as drawing the readers attention to evidence that must be cited from the literature.

Think of the discussion of primary sources as a bridge for your reader between the secondary literature and your own findings on the topic. Answer these questions in clear prose: What evidence does the primary source material provide? What questions arise from comparing the primary sources with the secondary literature? What insights from these sources are the most important to identify and explain my topic? How might I productively, clearly, and concisely elaborate them for my reader? What evidence do I have from primary sources that helps answer my research questions and support an argument?
