For this assignment, you will read a short scenario and then answer a few questions about that scenario. You will be asked to choose a theory and use it to explain the employee’s job attitude, incorporating details from the scenario to support your arguments. You will also provide examples of four possible responses based on the EVLN model. The scenario is pasted below or can be accessed using the attached document. 

Directions:

Based on what you read, argue that Wendell is either satisfied or dissatisfied with his internship and justify your answer by using at least one of the following theories: need satisfaction or social information processing. Use one or both of the theories to explain why Wendell has developed his attitude about his internship. Include specific details to back your claim (note, you can argue for both theories but one is a better choice).

Additionally, apply the EVLN model to explain 4 possible ways Wendell could act, based on his dissatisfaction. In other words, outline four different responses Wendell could have to his internship and connect each one to a different facet of the EVLN model. 

The paper should be 1-2 pages, double spaced, times new roman font, 1-inch margins, indented paragraph format, and NO SPACES BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS.

The scenario:

Wendell has always dreamed of being a forensic scientist. Two months ago, he accepted an internship at a prestigious institute that regularly assists law enforcement in solving high-profile cases. The internship provides extensive experience and unique opportunities to network with important members of the field. When Wendell opened the acceptance letter, he was thrilled and couldn’t believe his luck! The internship is unpaid, does not offer benefits, and requires long hours, but it is highly competitive and a well-respected placement. The internship also satisfies a degree requirement.

When Wendell started the internship, he was disappointed to find that interns are typically assigned tedious and aversive tasks that the regular employees find distasteful and boring. The supervisors often call the interns by the wrong name, dismiss their suggestions, and take credit for their work. Additionally, regular employees ignore or speak disrespectfully to the interns and refuse to answer questions about work tasks. The other interns welcomed Wendell with warnings about the employees and supervisors, cautioning him that he was beginning a job from Hell. The other interns often claim that they would quit in a heartbeat if the internship didn’t look so good on resumes. Wendell is frequently invited to happy hours with the other interns. At the bar, the interns discuss how their assigned tasks are unfair and ridiculous and rally around cries that they all deserve better. Although the interns knew the internship was unpaid and did not come with benefits before they started, the interns love complaining about the lack of pay while sharing pitchers of beer. Wendell is approaching his third month and has realized that he dreads going to work. He has a difficult time waking up on time and thinking about his work frustrates him. Each day, he reminds himself that the internship will look good on his resume and help him complete his degree, although he wonders if forensics is really what he wants to do for the rest of his life.
