THESIS:

—————-

(  In "A Sound of Thunder”, Ronald Dahl employs theme and characterization to reveal the story’s situational, verbal and dramatic irony. )

INTRODUCTION:

————————-

(Could one’s a caring wife, for whom they have shared their love and devotion, disguise her true character and vindictiveness in a methodical act of cold-hearted vengeance, without putting herself at risk by murdering her beloved husband? This occurred in the case of Roald Dahl’s 1953 short story titled “Lamb to the Slaughter ” which revolves around the murder of detective Patrick Maloney committed by his 6-months pregnant wife, Mary Maloney. Roald Dahl has always been known for his dark, mysterious and twisted stories such as “Lamb to The Slaughter”. Most of his work is praised and includes a lot of unknown backgrounds and motivation with exciting characters and their engaging way of changing the plot. Mary Maloney was described as a happy and peaceful woman with a golden heart and deep love for her husband, trying to please him to get his affection and love. The story takes place on what first seemed to have been a normal evening, with Mary happy and anxious to cook supper for her husband and hear about his day. However, Mary Maloney’s life gets turned upside down all in the matter minutes after her husband who she has loved from the bottom of his heart, brings deviated news which leads to an uproar of events. In "A Sound of Thunder”, Ronald Dahl employs theme and characterization to reveal the story’s situational, verbal and dramatic irony. Within that, The author demonstrates how betrayal can quickly undermine a person’s appearance to their true nature, and how devotion can easily evolve into violence. )
