Teaching requires knowing the individual needs and learning styles and preferences of the digital learners we serve. Using a variety of approaches assures we are meeting the needs of our learners and personalizing the learning.

In this assignment, you will develop a mind map as an advance organizer for a lesson you will develop on a selected topic. The purpose of the mind map is to stimulate your thinking about how, within the lesson, you will give learners more opportunities for interactivity and greater voice in their learning.

In a 2- to 3-paragraph introduction, explain the topic you plan to present to your learners. Provide the following:

·         Educational level of learners (early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, or adult)

·         2-3 learning outcomes

·         Core content area for this topic

·         Delivery method (face-to-face, virtual, blended)

Consider these questions as you plan the design of your mind map:

·         In what activities will learners engage in the lesson?

·         What interactions will you incorporate into the activities? Consider these types of interactions: instructor-to-learner, learner-to-learner, learner-to-content, learner-to-technology, and learner-to-self.

·         How will you promote and encourage learner voice throughout the lesson?

As an advance organizer for developing the lesson, create a mind map to identify how you will provide learners opportunities for interactivity and greater voice in their learning. See the Learning Objects page for mind map resources. Follow these basic steps to create the mind map.

·         Draw a circle in the center of the page. Label the circle with the lesson topic and the educational level of the learners who will engage in the lesson (early childhood, elementary, middle school, high school, or adult).

·         Draw 5-7 smaller circles at various locations around the center circle and lines connecting each smaller circle to the center circle.

·         In each smaller circle, place the title of an activity that will promote learner interactivity and/or voice. Vary the activities, so you represent both opportunities for interactivity and voice. The smaller circles should include multimodal activities featuring text, video, photos, games, and other resources.

·         From each smaller circle, draw lines on which to write the ways in which the activity will promote learner activity and/or voice.

In a separate Word document, and in 3-4 paragraphs, describe and reflect on the process of creating the mind map. Consider the following questions.

·         How effective was the tool or process you used to develop your mind map?

·         What was the easiest task in developing the mind map?

·         What was most difficult task?

·         How do you anticipate the mind map will impact the learning experience?

Submit an APA-formatted document to include a title page, introduction, mind map, reflection, and a reference page.
