Case Application Assignments
Students will complete two case application assignments, applying MRI and Milan family therapy theories to a family. Additional information will be provided one week before the assignment is due.
Theory II Application Paper
Students will apply one case family to two family therapy theories. The project should be written in the third person and structured as follows:
1. Case Family: Students should briefly (in one paragraph or half a page) introduce the case family. Students are strongly encouraged to use their own family of origin as the case example, including only information that students feel comfortable disclosing.
2. Theory Application: This project will cover the following family therapies: (a) Haleys strategic family therapy and (b) Minuchins structural family therapy.
From the perspective of each of these two theories, the student will (a) provide a theory-based assessment of the family; and (b) provide an overview of how treatment might proceed, including theory-based goals and a clear description of two theory-based interventions (intervention description: what might the therapist do or say).
3. Sociocultural Attunement: Students will discuss the socio-cultural issues as they pertain to the case family. Concepts and ideas from the readings may be applied.
