My Musical Tastes
How would you describe your musical tastes? List several composers, performers, and bands that you like. How would you classify these musicians in terms of genre (reggae, punk, classical, etc.)? Are your tastes narrow and specific? Broad and eclectic?
Directives:
· Pick three (3) questions from the collection of seven (7) questions below and develop a chronicle or an assessment of your musical tastes by addressing the questions you chose. You MUST type which question number you are addressing before the paragraph in which you discuss that content.
· For each new question, make sure to refer to the specific question number at the beginning of your paragraphs that address that question so that I know which questions you are addressing.
· Be very specific, honest, and daring and try to communicate what goes on in your heart and mind when you listen to the music that you like.
Questions:
1. How did you start liking the music you like? Can you pinpoint a time? Give examples of your favorite artists and why.
2. Is there and explanation? A story? A moment of discovery? Exposure by peers? Family?
3. What kind of music do you absolutely detest? Why? Is it boring, agitating, depressing, or not “cool” or socially acceptable by your peer group?
4. To what extent is your taste dictated by fashion, trend, or what is acceptable to your social group?
5. How do other people (family, friends, neighbors, strangers) react to your musical tastes? Are you satisfied with that response? Can you share some anecdotes (stories)?
6. What do you feel (personal emotional response) when you listen to your favorite music (be as specific as possible)?
7. Was there ever a time when you liked certain music but have since outgrown it? Are your tastes changing right now? Toward what end do you think your tastes are evolving? Do you anticipate a time when your tastes will be completely different than they are now? Is that an exciting prospect or a fearful prospect?
