In assignment I, you will be conducting a needs assessment. Since you will likely not be able to carry this out fully during the 8 weeks of the course, please provide your proposal and plan for how you would go about conducting your needs assessment. You will be expected to meet the following objectives as closely as possible:
- Identifies and determines the scope of the social, economic, and environmental
conditions or issues that need improving.
- Gathers information/data about the gap between the current and desired level of
audience knowledge, attitudes, skills, aspirations (KASA), and behaviors.
- Helps confirm or negate assumptions of audience characteristics and appropriate
content; defines goals and objectives; ensures goals and objectives are aligned with
the agency’s strategic plan and other planning documents; and identifies stakeholders
and potential collaborators.
Questions that should be addressed by a needs assessment include:
- What are the nature and scope of the problem? Where is the problem located, whom
does it affect, and how does it affect them?
- What is it about the problem or its effects that justifies new, expanded, or modified
projects or programs?
- What feasible actions are likely to significantly ameliorate the problem?
- Who is the appropriate target audience(s)?
- Who are the stakeholders and sponsors?
Please follow the guidelines as set forth in pages 7-24 of the Designing Education Projects document to guide in creation of this stage of your assignment. You should also follow the set forth steps on page 12 as highlighted here (it may not be possible to carry out steps 12 and 13 since this is a proposal/plan only, so do the best you can given your limitations):

Step 9. Design and describe how you would pilot data collection instrument(s)
Step 10. Discuss your plan for gathering and recording data
Step 11. Discuss how you would perform data analysis
Step 12. Determine priorities and identify potential solutions
Step 13. Synthesize information and create a report
The estimated page range for this 8-10 double spaced pages. Please keep in mind, however, you will not be penalized for going over 10 pages, as long as it is “within reason” nor will be penalized if you are short of 8 pages as long as this is also “within reason” and you can adequately address these steps along with guidelines and questions provided for guidance with this assignment.
