Review the Lecture 14 lecture power point slide 25 and complete the field trip to a large chain grocery story as detailed on slide 27.  The Illusion of Choice is a powerful social control mechanism!

  • Did you know that all of those independent brands and companies were owned by just a few multinational corporations?
  • Is this some form of reciprocity?
  • If so, what do THEY get? What do WE get?
  • Discuss how having the illusion of choice impacts and mollifies U.S.A. shoppers (for example: being led to believe that consumers are getting a good deal, addressing perceived demands for improved products, anything else?)
