For this assignment, I would like you to read the Primary V. Secondary Sources. In history, our use of primary sources has constantly changed. Some pivotal moments include written language, the printing press, and social media. The closer we get to the present day, the wider array of options to study a subject exists. You are going to write a short essay from the future.
Pretend the year is 2040; twenty years after the 2020 election. Your history teacher asks you to write a short essay about the “History of the 2020 election”. Keep in mind that an election is extremely broad. You can discuss our current president’s campaign, the backing of Bernie Sanders, the “Fake News” phenomenon, Russian Interference, and so on… But the purpose of the assignment is to use primary sources from that time period. In other words, what are specific examples of primary sources that will be used to describe the life we are living.
Some examples are Twitter/Instagram posts, “Memes”, Facebook news articles, polarizing television, and so on.
The essay should be at least 275 words and include pictures, quotes, and links depending on the sources that you use. Remember, the point of this exercise is to be able to identify primary sources and use them to describe the “past”.
