Prison Assessment and Treatment Video Project
The risk-needs-responsivity (RNR) model has become the dominant paradigm in risk and needs assessment.
The risk principle states that convicted offenders need to be placed in programs that are commensurate with their risk level; in other words, provide more intensive treatment and services to high-risk offenders while low-risk offenders should receive minimal or even no intervention (James, 2018).
The need principle states that effective treatment should also focus on addressing the criminogenic needs that contribute to criminal behavior (James, 2018). The responsivity principle states that rehabilitative programming should be delivered in a style and mode that is consistent with the ability and learning style of the offender (James, 2018).

For this assignment, you will create a 5- to 7-minute video presentation on the following topics.
- Summarize the importance of the prison classification process and how they are integral parts of determining the proper programming for inmates.
- Explain how prison programming has evolved over time.
- Discuss how prison programs prepare inmates for assimilation back into society.
- Explain how changes in correctional programming, including cutting funds, impact inmates.
Review the Video Recording Guidelines document prior to beginning the assignment because it will aid you in developing your video.
Your video should provide a clear visual of you speaking. Make sure you dress properly and speak naturally in a pleasant, social way. You may use any recording equipment to record your video, including a cell phone. Record your video in front of a stage at a local community center (if possible) or a relevant backdrop. Please ensure that there are no distracting or overbearing sounds that hinder the viewers ability to clearly hear your presentation. Your video and written transcript should address the requirements set forth above. Be concise and to the point.
After you have recorded the video, you will upload it to YouTube. Review the Video Upload Instructions document to assist you in this process. You will provide the link to your video as outlined below.
To submit your 5- to 7-minute video, copy the link from YouTube and paste the link into a Word document. Also, include your video transcript in the Word document.
