INSTRUCTIONS:
Please watch the film Prison State (https://www.pbs.org/video/frontline-prison-state/) (01:23:40) from PBS Frontline (closed captioning (CC) available) and write a paper (essay format) which addresses the following questions:
What was the most surprising/troubling thing you learned from the film?
Discuss 3 common correlates (predictors/causes) of criminality that you saw in the film. Be specific (use examples from the film!)
Which of the following types of theories do you believe does the best job of explaining criminalityand why?
Sociological (e.g., environment/family/peers)
Psychological (e.g., mental health, cognitive, personality)
Biological (e.g., genetic, neurological)
GRADING CRITERIA:
Papers must be at least 2 full pages (typed, double spaced, 12 font or less, 1 inch margins). You must illustrate that you have a.) viewed the video in its entirety, and b.) understood the information from lecture and text in chapters 1 and 2. It is expected that you will make connections between the information in the film and the information from the course/text material/lecture/notes. Review expectations and criteria for writing assignments in the syllabus. Use APA and include reference list and in-text citations where appropriate.
