Signature Assignment 2 – Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development (This is NOT uploaded to Livetext)
For this written assignment, provide a description of each stage of Erikson’s psychosocial stages of development. For the first six stages, e.g., Trust vs. Mistrust through Intimacy vs. Isolation, provide a personal reflection on how successful you were in resolving that particular stage. Erikson says each of these stages represents a psychological crisis. For the last two stages, just provide a description of the stage.
When reflecting upon your own experience, describe whether your resolution of this stage had a positive or negative outcome. If it was a positive outcome, describe how that successful resolution was reflected in your social and psychological life. If it was a negative outcome, describe how that lack of resolution manifested in your life.
When you get to Identity vs. Role Confusion, which is the stage that Erickson considered the most significant in a person’s psychosocial development, describe how the conflict represented at this stage played out in your own life. Describe some basic skills and values that are necessary to be successful in resolving this stage.
If you are not sure how you resolved a psychosocial stage, refer to Ochse & Plug’s (1986) study. The questions at the end of the article will help you describe how you resolved the stage.
