Choreographer: Anthony Lee

Dance form: Hip Hop

Within this final project, students will select a dance form(s), choreographer(s)/company(ies), and/or performance(s) that they are interested in studying further. For example, if Professor Strong was completing this assignment, she might choose to study Camille A. Brown, her performance Black Girl Linguistic Play, and the dance form Stepping (since it is used in Camille’s work). Please note, that while you are welcome to choose a dance form/choreographer/performance that we have encountered within this class, you are also more than welcome to study something that we havent encountered in the course.

Culminating papers, podcasts, and/or videos should take into consideration:

A) What you have learned from your research process

B) How you choose to speak and/or write about the physical movement you view

C) How you use critical analysis & inquiry to reflect on the performances you view.

D) What are the larger theoretical, societal, and/or political contexts that might impact the dance form, choreographers work, or the performances you are studying.

E) Driven by our pursuit as public intellectuals, it is ultimate goal to have our research connect with audiences outside of the University Setting. So, how can you design your paper/video/podcast to effectively reach and be enjoyed by an audience outside of Academia. (e.g. how might you incorporate creativity to effectively reach this target audience; how might this goal effect the way you speak and/or write; etc.)

Final Note: Don’t forget to cite your sources within your paper/podcast/video & be sure to include a bibliography page. For this project, you can use whatever citation format you are most comfortable with (e.g. MLA, APA, Chicago, etc are all accepted).
